　　1. irritate v. 使惱怒=annoy

　　His letter irritated me a little.

　　他的信使我有點(diǎn)惱怒。

　　2. jeopardize v. 危及=endanger

　　You jeopardize your job by being late often.

　　總是遲到危及到你的工作。

　　Soldiers jeopardize their lives in war.

　　士兵們在戰(zhàn)爭中使他們的生命陷入險(xiǎn)境。

　　3. junk n. 廢物

　　junk food 垃圾食品

　　詞義辨析：junk, waste, garbage, rubbish, litter, debris,

　　junk: 指回收的舊汽車或大型機(jī)器，也指毫無實(shí)用價(jià)值，或破爛物體，但不指垃圾

　　waste: 普通用詞，概念廣泛，指任何被丟棄的東西

　　garbage: 主要指有機(jī)廢料，包括廚房的剩菜剩飯或不能再用的食物。也可作引申用

　　rubbish: 普通用詞，指任何成堆的、破損的、用過的或無用的東西，尤指棄掉的垃圾堆。也可作引申用

　　litter: 是四下亂丟物品的總稱，尤指散落于地，有礙觀瞻的廢物

　　debris: 著重指分解、分裂或破壞后剩下的碎片，也指零散的普通廢品

　　Junk is anything that has outlived its usefulness.

　　破爛貨，是一些比它本身的用處還活久了的東西。

　　4. kidnap v. 綁架

　　Police have uncovered a plot to kidnap the President's son.

　　警方已偵破一起綁架總統(tǒng)之子的陰謀。

　　5. legend n. 傳奇

　　According to the old legend, Romulus was the founder of Rome.

　　按照古老的傳說，羅穆盧斯是古羅馬的建國者。

　　The little girl is very interested in the old legend of immortal creatures.

　　小女孩對有關(guān)永生的精靈的古老傳奇非常感興趣。

　　6. legitimate a. 合法的=legal/lawful

　　He is the legitimate heir to the property.

　　他是這宗財(cái)產(chǎn)的合法繼承人。

　　I'm not sure that his business is strictly legitimate.

　　我說不好他的生意是否全部合法。

　　7. liability n. 責(zé)任=legal obligation;不利條件=drawback

　　He admitted his liability for the accident.

　　他承認(rèn)自己對這起事故應(yīng)負(fù)責(zé)任。

　　Lack of education was a liability in getting a job.

　　缺少教育對找工作不利。

　　8. literacy n. 讀寫能力

　　I can't believe that he failed the literacy test.

　　我無法相信他識字測試不及格。

　　9. literally ad. 逐字地; 確實(shí)地

　　Don't read the report literally now, just skim through it.

　　現(xiàn)在，不要逐字讀報(bào)告，大致地看一下就可以了。

　　Speculations about its nature have been going on for literally thousands of years.

　　關(guān)于它的實(shí)質(zhì)的種種推測，確實(shí)已進(jìn)行了數(shù)千年之久。

　　10. litter v. 亂扔

　　No littering!

　　別亂扔垃圾!
